Diary
Saturday 19th October 2003
This diary entry comes from the balcony of the Hotel Himalaya situated
in the heart of Lhasa with views across the city towards the foothills
of the Himalaya. Lhasa is far more modern than anticipated, especially
in comparison with Kathmandu.
We arrived at 4pm local time and are settling in and acclimatising
to the 12000ft altitude. The team are all fit, well and in good
spirits. We will be spending 4 days acclimatising in Lhasa in readiness
for our departure to Everest.
Our journey from Kathmandu to Lhasa was a spectacular one hour
flight across the Himalayas passing close to Everest. We enjoyed
stunning views of the mountain range spread out below us with crystal
clear blue skies.
The next update will be in a couple of days just before we commence
our overland journey towards Everest.
